October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Stop right now, yes YOU, go to the nearest restroom and do your self breast exam. I'll wait...........................................
Ok, now that we got that out of the way...
I was invited, by the awesome Erica Dias, (shout-out to The BFirm PR) publicist to some great people here in Atlanta, to attend an event this past weekend at Athleta's in Atlantic Station. There was a guest speaker, who from the moment she got up to speak, all I could think was WOW, she is STUNNING! I'm thinking, there's noooo way she can be dealing with anything. This woman was so on point, from her hair to her apparell. She began to speak and tell her story of being a two time breast cancer SURVIVOR. The woman I'm speaking of is Niya Brown-Matthew. Niya's story was so touching. Just having being cleared in June of cancer, you could only imagine, telling her story was a bit emotional for her.
At just age 27 Niya was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. A routine self- examination turned her life completely around. Despite her illness, Niya continued working through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In 2013 the cancer returned but not realizing she was prepared to fight harder and remained “Too Fabulous for Cancer” no one even knew she had cancer. Niya always had the spirit of helping people and that’s how she was able to cope with being “sick”. Despite her two time battle with breast cancer, she has managed to be “Too Fabulous for Cancer”. Niya has managed to never give up, and putting her best heel forward. She’s a CEO, Humanitarian, Wife, Mother….BOSS LADY.
