Fashion and Beauty was at an all time high this past weekend at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Lupita Nyong'o, Ariel Winter, Reese Witherspoon and Danielle Brooks were some of our favorites. From the Simply Stunning gowns, the flawless faces and effortless hair styles, everyone had a statement that they were definitely aiming to make. Reese Witherspoon wore Giorgio Armani and a flawless sultry face done by my makeup artist Molly R. Stern. Danielle Brooks of Orange is the New Black graced the red carpet wearing an old Hollywood custom Christian Siriano gown and her face was beat to capacity by one of our favorite makeup artists Jessica Smalls and hair by the amazing Larry Sim. Lupita took the scene with her Elie Saab gown, glowing makeup done by Nick Barose and her gorgeous crown braids. Ladies we give a round of applause to you all. You all have set the bar high and we just love it!!!!!!!!

We're very late with this post, being the launch was in June of 2013, but we recently stumbled across the gorgeous Bonang while surfing social media. Bonang Matheba is a SIMPLY STUNNING woman who is presently the South African Revlon Brand Ambassador. She is a TV host, Metro FM DJ and owner of Bonang for Distractions Lingerie. Now if you follow any of Be Simply Stunning's social media pages then you know Joyua has a soft spot for South Africa. Visiting Capetown is on her Vision Board!! Not to mention that if you ever have had your face graced by Be Simply Stunning's MUA Joyua then you have more than likely been dolled up with the Revlon Colorstay Foundation. Its the only foundation she wears! So know for a fact, Bonang is our "IT GIRL" of 2015. But enough about us.... Catch the beauty of Bonang Matheba below as we salute her for all of her accomplishments thus far!!! Find out more about Bonang aka "B" at www.BonangMatheba.com and follow her on Instagram at @bonang_m
The Golden Globes aired on Jan 11, 2015 and it was only right that we chose our Best in Golden Globe Beauty for 2015. From the looks of it, Jennifer Lopez will never age (she's amazingly gorgeous), John Legend gets a A++ for choosing a SIMPLY STUNNING wife Mrs. Chrissy Teigen and one of my favorites from Orange is the New Black, Danielle Brooks, can captivate a red carpet. We see you girl with that flawless highlight and contour!!!!!! Sienna Miller, Kerry Washington and Lupita Nyong'o all looked Simply Stunning while walking the Red Carpet as well. Sienna's bob cut is giving us LIFE, HONTAYYYYYYYY! Kerry's high cheek bones and flawless foundation is everything! Lupita's skin is like butter, her lavender accented eyes are perfect for her skin tone.
J. Cat Wonder Lip Paint is a great inexpensive alternative to those lovers of the Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar. With a price ranging from $2.99 to $4.99, depending on where you buy them, compared to the $20 OCC lip tars, these paints are considered a steal. They have a wide range of fun colors for any occasion, as seen above. These paints can be purchased at most beauty supply stores, in your area or online at jcatbeauty.com. I recently wore the Queen Of Harts Lip Paint on top of my Secret Kisses PopStar Lipstick and I think it was a winning combination.
Fantasy Accessory Box is emerging with these beautiful glam neck pieces and body chains. The pieces are glamorous, jaw dropping and the epitome of Simply Stunning. You have to see these pieces for your self.
The Gwynnis Mosby Professional Makeup Artist Conference was such a treat. The 3 day conference/expo was held this past weekend at the 200 Peachtree Building in Atlanta, GA. Many great companies and tons of great artists, professional and aspiring gathered together to profess their love for makeup artistry. Companies such as Inglot Miami, Alcone, The Look by Joi, Norcostco, BlushBaby Studio, Nigel's Beauty Emporium, A.J. Crimson and so many others were in attendance. One great highlight of the conference, for me was the "Celebrity Makeup Artist" panel discussion, where artists such as the amazing Reggie Wells (who has done the faces of Oprah and Beyonce), Day Hill (who is known for her work on the emering Nicki Minaj and who recently did an interview for the Be Simply Stunning Blog-check that out), Quintessence Patterson (Tyler Perry movies/shows, Sunday Best, BET), Jeremy Dell (LHHATL, RHOA, BET), Manny Davila (LHHATL), and Alexis Fagan (Angela Simmons, Mike Epps, Wale). The panel guests answered the questions most aspiring and even established makeup artists always wanted to know like, How do you get your foot in the door?, How do you determine your rates? and even What has been some of their biggest challenges starting off? There was instruction on how to start a portfolio, Airbrushing demonstrations, shopping with wonderful discounts and so much more. It was just so amazing. A lot of people ask me after seeing my social media page, "Joyua, do you really attend all of the events you post about?"My answer is YES! I try my best to support as many people or projects as possible. I believe, your netWORK is your netWORTH and once you support others, they will support you!
Have ya'll gotten into these NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. They have been giving me the uttermost life lately. I always get complimented when I wear them. What's so amazing about it is NYX has really broaden the areas that they have made their lip cremes available. They can be found at your local beauty supply stores, Sephora, Ulta, Target and even most Drugstores. Now don't get me wrong the price will kind of take you a-back, being its roughly $5.99 depending on where you get it from, BUT its worth it. Some of my favorite colors from the collection is the "Monte Carlo" which is the gorgeous red pictured above, the "Copenhagen" which is the deep burgundy and my all time favorite that I wear quite often is "Istanbul", which is the beautiful soft pink pictured in the bottom picture. Go now, get yours so I can hear your reviews on it!!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Stop right now, yes YOU, go to the nearest restroom and do your self breast exam. I'll wait........................................... Ok, now that we got that out of the way... I was invited, by the awesome Erica Dias, (shout-out to The BFirm PR) publicist to some great people here in Atlanta, to attend an event this past weekend at Athleta's in Atlantic Station. There was a guest speaker, who from the moment she got up to speak, all I could think was WOW, she is STUNNING! I'm thinking, there's noooo way she can be dealing with anything. This woman was so on point, from her hair to her apparell. She began to speak and tell her story of being a two time breast cancer SURVIVOR. The woman I'm speaking of is Niya Brown-Matthew. Niya's story was so touching. Just having being cleared in June of cancer, you could only imagine, telling her story was a bit emotional for her. At just age 27 Niya was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. A routine self- examination turned her life completely around. Despite her illness, Niya continued working through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. In 2013 the cancer returned but not realizing she was prepared to fight harder and remained “Too Fabulous for Cancer” no one even knew she had cancer. Niya always had the spirit of helping people and that’s how she was able to cope with being “sick”. Despite her two time battle with breast cancer, she has managed to be “Too Fabulous for Cancer”. Niya has managed to never give up, and putting her best heel forward. She’s a CEO, Humanitarian, Wife, Mother….BOSS LADY. Please follow her movement "Too Fabulous for Cancer" on all social media sites
IG: @BossLadyINc Website: BossLadyUnited.com Facebook: Facebook.com/BossLadyUnited Day Hill, a true artist with having worked with such names as Marlo Hampton, Sheree Whitfield, TLC, Eva Pigford, Shanell, Jessica White, Clifton Powell, Eddie Griffin and Mychael Knight. Day’s most iconic work, to date, has been presented on the live canvas and phenom that is known as Nicki Minaj. Her work has appeared on the covers and pages of Rolling Stone, Essence, Vibe Ebony, People, and Cosmopolitan. What more can be said but BE INSPIRED! BSS: What an honor! Thank you so much Day for taking the time out to answer a few questions for the Be Simply Stunning Beauty Blog. You have been working in the beauty industry for quite awhile. Can you tell our viewers when you began doing makeup and inform us of what the transition into full time makeup was like for you? Day Hill: I started professionally in 1996 at a makeup counter in the mall. It was a side hustle because at that time I was a performer in a theater company, The Freddie Hendrick's Youth Ensemble of Atlanta, better known as YEA. The transition to working on celebrities and with magazines was only God. Being that to performance arts high school, as well as performing in a professional company, many of my friends began to do great things in the entertainment industry. They went off to LA and NY and tried makeup artists there and would always come back because they loved my work. I then started to feel like "Wow maybe I'm pretty ok at this thing?" As they grew I grew. I always told myself I wanted to earn it and not expect to be chosen. I tell all makeup artists, "Make sure you have a network!" BSS: With the way applying makeup has begun to be such a phenom that any and everyone is doing, how have you continued to set yourself apart, not be in the limelight but still obtain amazing opportunities? Day Hill: I truly believe in focusing on your craft and just be good. God will send your clients. I never went after celebrities.... They came to me. If you don't chase people you will be able to name your price. If you become a chaser you will be vulnerable to your fears of losing a client. I only want the people God sends me to use my craft on. Every client isn't for me. I limit my social media because I truly care about what God has put before me that day. What's happening in everyone else's world sometimes deflects on the blessing that's sitting in your face. I really think it depends on your personal goals. I never aimed to be famous.... I want my work to be known because my client is known for having great makeup. I love my privacy, but I can not front, I love many of the perks to working with celebrities. But I also work with business professional women and different children organizations. I like having a diverse clientele all celebrity is stressful and can become mundane for me. I need all types of people to spark my creativity. BSS: You were recently honored as one of the Best in Atlanta Beauty. What was the feeling like when you received the call that you would get such recognition? Day Hill: Best in Beauty in Atlanta was such a sweet award. I'm not in competition with anyone or thing but it's truly a blessing to be recognized for the things God has allowed me to accomplish. Atlanta is a tough city and many people cannot survive here. It's great to be honored in my hometown. That's rare! BSS: What advise would you give a person who is great in the craft of makeup but just have not landed the opportunities to take their career to the next level? Day Hill:No two journeys are alike. Focus on the blessing of your journey and not on the outcome so much. Don't get me wrong, have goals, but don't try and dictate how they are supposed to manifest. No client is greater than the other. Learn and give your best to each one and it will prepare you for the responsibility of handling clients who are more in demand. Also I find it more fulfilling to get with an up and coming artist and help build their brand than to come in on an artist that already has a brand. When you are dealing with your people who have already become stars then you will have to fill the footsteps of whoever came before you. It usually takes time for them to trust you enough to allow you to become your own artist. I hate trying to recreate other artist. Up and coming makeup artists I will say, Prepare yourself and don't be so eager for celebrity life. If you know you are charging at the lower end of the spectrum and are not in a place that you feel comfortable in charging celebrity rates then wait on your confidence. This industry is not just about how great an artist you are, but also how great of a business person you can be. I do way more business than actual makeup. Just know that your client can wear a ponytail, wife beater and jeans but that face MUST be beat! When you low-ball your prices and under cut other makeup artists you are not hurting the other artist you are hurting our industry as a whole. Now everyone's rates have to go down instead of everyone's rates going up. Let's get money together! BSS: What other things does Day Hill have going on that we must stay tuned to? Day Hill: At the moment I'm working on Bravo's, season 3, Married to Medicine with Mrs. Toya Bush Harris. I also worked on a few independent film projects that have been submitted to several festivals such as Sundance and Tribecca. I just started working with a new female group that I'm betting will be signed shortly. There's also a project that I am working on that may have me in front of the camera that we are shopping to the networks as we speak. My future is bright and I love the artistic direction my career is taking. God is the greatest artist of ALL! WOW! WOW! WOW! This woman is a true inspiration. As a makeup artist myself, I was all ears to get all the wisdom I could from such a person who has definitely paid their dues in this industry. I have followed the work of Day Hill for some time now and I truly believe that God is very strategic about how he connects people. We have exchanged little words here and there through social media but never really connected one on one. So the moment I saw her at the Best in Beauty event, I thought to myself, Don't miss this opportunity to finally meet. I won't lie, a little fear came over me to speak, when I seen her in the same room as me. I thought to myself will she even remember who I am? But the moment I said hello, she was so warm and knew exactly who I was and even affirmed the words to me "Girl you out here doing your thing" and she said that if I ever had anything going on to let her know and she would be there to support me. You never know how your words can be the very motivation that inspires someone to keep going. I'm INSPIRED!
